Near the end of December I had problems with the balancer coming loose I thought. Ends up that the Balancer Collar cracked and the key came out. This let the Balancer spin freely on the crank and tore up the crankshaft. This forced us to pull the motor and replace the crank and balancer.
*Here is the snub of the bad crank*
Upon pulling the motor the oil pan was full of shavings but luckily the bearings looked great and hopefully none of the shavings got where they weren't supposed to. So We pulled the crank out and cleaned everything up.
*Here are the metal shavings*
I had to pick up some Parts now so I got a 10/10 Crank from WISE Speed Shop for $108. I also picked up A set of Clevite77 bearings for $50.
Then the Local GM Dealer was nice enough to price match on a 6 3/4in AC Delco Harmonic Balancer. And SCP supplied me with a Jr. MFG Heavy Duty Timing cover, Mr. Gasket Timing Tape, and ARP Timing Cover Studs.

With the motor tore apart we realized that the bearings looked great plus the shavings seemed to have stayed in the bottom of the pan. I got everything cleaned up and while I have it out I am going to reseal the Intake that started to form a leak. Hopefully this will be the last time this motor comes out until its time for a cam change :)
*Here is a shot of the old bearings*
After multiple washing of the oil pan I cannot seem to remove the metal shavings so I am sending it to the Local Shop to have it Hot Tanked and Pressure Washed along with the oil pickup tube. Hopefully this will remove any leftover residue. I have also gone ahead and cleaned up the intake to prepare to be resealed and ready for the new thermostat. The block has been washed down and touched up with some VHT Engine Paint. The new bearings are in place in the mains and are awaiting to be plasitguaged.

Well with the new Crank in and the new oil pump installed it was time to put her back together. I got the oil pan bolted down and the intake sealed back up. As of the pic above I am waiting on my Valve Covers which are at the shop being hot tanked and pressure washed so they can be repainted. Then its back in we go.
*Here are the clean valve covers*
After the paint dried on the valve covers it all went together quickly. I hooked up some vacuum lines and PCV valve. It is all ready now to be dropped back into my baby and brought back to life yet again....... I have also made up my leak-proof exhaust gaskets, to see how that was done click HERE. I cannot wait to get her back on the road and kicking ass......
Well after getting everything bolted up excluding the pulleys and ass. items I was getting closer and closer. On Monday the new pulleys showed up thanks to Todd form the Nova Listserve. They lined up perfectly and are going to clean up that engine bay a lot. I am going from a 3 groove crank pulley and 2 groove water pump pulley to a 2 groove crank Pulley and 1 groove water pump pulley. I am going to paint them Cast Grey and see how it looks on the motor but may end up going back to black.
Well after almost a month she came back to life and strong as ever. I still have some fine tuning to do but she runs and I have proof. Check the 3 videos and see for yourself.
There ya go, now onto more projects.....
